Start with life stage, not with brand. A kitten needs a growth formula with higher protein, fat and DHA, an adult cat needs controlled calories and magnesium, and a cat over seven does better on highly digestible protein with moderate phosphorus. Feeding an adult food to a growing kitten is the single most common mistake we see, and it shows up as slow growth and a dull coat within a couple of months.

Then read the first three ingredients on the pack. A named meat or meat meal in the first position is a better sign than a cereal, and the guaranteed analysis should show at least 30% crude protein for dry cat food. Check the batch code and expiry date printed on the bag — in Bangladesh's humidity, a pack close to expiry loses palatability fast, and cats refuse stale kibble long before it looks spoiled.

Buy the pack size you will finish in about a month. A 7kg bag is cheaper per kilo, but once opened it starts oxidising, and for a single cat eating 60–70g a day it will not stay fresh to the last bowl. Whichever food you pick, switch over seven days — 25% new food for two days, then 50%, then 75% — so your cat's gut has time to adjust.
